I've thought about it. I don't tend to use Vista enough yet to really feel as though I'd be a great help but, why not? I'll make a Vista section.

Well, So much for big problems! I HAD a voucher to upgrade to vista and did not use it. It was enough of a leap going to XP. I hear there are a few disgruntled new users. MY nightmare scenario is that I will try to load all the programs I have on duplicate CD's (some are original but I have them in odd places and some are... well ... family versions) and none of my old software will be recognized as legal. Is it not so secure that is requires licensing for EVERYTHING? Just checking out rumors... dj*

Vista doesn't care about much other than Vista. In other words - your software licenses will still be valid. Many people, beyond the anti-hype, are quite pleased with Vista. What it WILL ask you for is NOT licensing but rather permission during the installation. This is what should have been the case all along - you SHOULD require administration rights to install or alter system settings. Linux, Unix, Mac OS, and more are all like this. Unfortunately two things happen here. For starters - not all Windows users see this as a good thing (the extra two seconds to type a password is too much perhaps) and it is a bit excessive in some people's opinions but, for the most part, I personally have no complaints about it and everyone I've heard personally complain about it was generally doomed to failure from the start due to lack of understanding how profiles and permissions work. (Fortunately they pay me to fix their mistakes and I charge enough to warrant listening to their complaints in silence.)

I needed a new PC and for funding reasons HAD to buy it at Best Buy. So, I was stuck with Vista, despite grave misgivings and a fear that I would need to buy another XP license to install on my new machine.
To my surprise, Vista is working fantastic and I like it.
Cheers

What is the problem my friend describes with his old 4 MP camera? I must say, I don't have specifics but what WOULD be a problem???
Do they install drivers the same? Can you use old programs... like REALLY old ones??? dj*

In the case of hardware you will need to hope for the best, contact the manufacturer, or search their site for drivers and/or software that will work with Vista. (In most cases just the drivers will be enough.) In SOME cases the drivers for XP will work but that's a rarity and not the norm.

Err... I'm not seeing a post about descriptive problems - I could be missing it. Which post or what not? All I see is "interface problems" which doesn't describe anything or mean anything really. Brand? Model? Symptoms? Etc...

I use it once in a while. A lot of what I absolutely NEED has issues and I'm too lazy to find an alternative solution. For most people it is fine but they mostly hate UAC.
