Zone edit name servers kinda screwed up my domain name. I can no longer connect to my site using www.utechnet.comHowever, I CAN connect to it using utserver.sytes.net. Both of the domains have been set to go to the same place. This has been going on for about 4 days now. And its starting to annoy people other then myself. Any help? |

With ZE you REALLY should go over their help files. They are intense. You can (and in your case would) use software to update it to your IP address, etc. I haven't run a domain name based server at my home since 2001 or so BUT they had, and likely still do, software that will start on boot and send your name, password, etc to them. That will update you IP address with them while your nameservers stay the same, that's about all I recollect. I suppose I can take a domain and swap it over and download the software and see (a few were payware) but you /should/ not have that much of a problem with it.
Basically you change the NS to theirs. You wait for it to propagate. In the mean-time you change IP addresses as you reboot (perhaps) and you go ahead and let it run. If you're already forwarding past a router then there are no more changes needed - as you're able to get there with the other domain? You shouldn't have to mess with anything at your end. (Nothing, your end is fine.)
From there you can go ahead and set it up - there are things there (search the help files for dynamic IP addresses and apply that even if it appears you have a single IP address) and run with it from there. The NS, MX, and A records should all be set to them for the time being.
If no then let me know and I'll set small-ish account that is a BH-1 with more space as I think that is what you said that you needed. However space and bandwidth would need to be known as you'll likely be one of the last to fill a server before we close it to additional clients. But, yeah, you /should/ be fine if you made it this far. Mostly it is just mapping ns**.zoneedit.com to your dynamic IP address.
Or that is all that it should be....

Well, I got it figured out. When you started talking about me needing to put software on my server for the name server, I got very confused, and resorted to the FAQ. It was quite simple, all I needed to do was just add my servers IP to the IP Adresses section on the Edit Zones page.
Silly meh.

LOL It's nice and easy if you want, that is if you have a dynamic IP address. (Most folks don't have a static IP address. A quick look implies that your IP address changes though not very often. If you have a fairly static or a true static (which you have a lease for) IP then it is even easier else you'd have to go in and change it every time you disconnected which would tend to suck which is where the afore mentioned software comes in - it will go in and update it for you automatically.
