First up, Motown really hasn't been the same (though I am not sure if it is worse or better) since it came under non-black leadership quite some number of years ago. And it has to be the top five? *ponders*

The Temptations
The Commodores
Marvin Gaye
Stevie Wonder
Four Tops

It was a toss up - you said PERFORMERS... So Stevie Wonder really isn't much of a performer but Jackson is. (Was? Now he mostly does funny things and turns himself white which is, frankly, amusing.)

Well, I say performers, because it opened up the category to singers, songwriters, groups, etc.

Oh wow. I forgot Marvin Gaye. And he was going to be my next Top Five. *facepalm*

I was in love with MJ back in the day, but now he makes me shudder. However... he's a very important part of music... I dunno. I've been going back and forth on it.

And no, OF COURSE it doesn't have to be just five! It's like... a jumping off number.

I think he's had one too many plastic surgeries, and now everything is pulled too tight. He might snap some skin if he gyrated too much.
