Can't connect to the internet...

Okay, So I have someone's pc here for a healthcheck (I find these in awful mess most of the time with lots of viruses and other nasties).

However I have a LAN connection (broadband) and have been trying to use it to connect to the computer to retrieve all the important windows updates. However I am being blocked. It's not spyware/viruses or other nasties. I have removed all of the nasties.

The client runs a dial-up broadband (Dial-up basically ) could this be blocking my LAN connection. The computer correctly identifies when the LAN connection is removed. Yet, IE just shows a could not find server page.

What could be blocking this?

That depends on what you want to accomplish, what your skill set is, what hardware you purchase, and how you want to reach your goals. There's a lot to picking an OS but the only right choice is the one that is right for you.
